Active Communities Initiative
Applications now open
PURPOSE
The Active Communities Initiative (ACI) supports eligible organizations to retrofit, renew, expand, and/or build new small to medium sized public-use community sport and recreation facilities.
All documents for ACI must be uploaded and submitted no later than June 30, 2025, at 23:59 PM.

Maximum Funding from the GOA cannot exceed 50 per cent of the total project cost. |
Eligible applicants must be First Nations or Metis Settlements or registered, and in good standing, for more than two years under one of the following Acts:
Provincial Legislation
- Agriculture Societies Act
- Companies Act, Part 9 (Non-profit Companies)
- Part 21 of the Business Corporations Act (Extra-Provincial Corporations)
- Societies Act of Alberta
- Special Act of the Alberta Legislature
Federal Legislation
- Income Tax Act (Registered Charity, operating in the Province of Alberta)
- Special Act of the Parliament of Canada and operating in Alberta
STEP 1: ELIGIBILITY CHECK
Before beginning the application process ensure that:
- The organization is eligible to apply.
- The organization must be in good standing with Corporate Registries. Check your status here.
- All Government of Alberta grant reporting is completed (i.e: not delinquent).
STEP 2: DOWNLOAD GUIDELINES AND WORKBOOK
Please follow the instructions below to download the workbook:
- Right click on the link to the ACI 2025 Workbook.
- Select "Save link as..."
- Choose a location on your computer to save the file.
- Click Save.
STEP 3: REVIEW THE GUIDELINES AND WORKBOOK
STEP 4: BUILD BUSINESS CASE DOCUMENT
A single Business Case document must be submitted. For further details, see the Guidelines.
Complete and compile all sections of the Business Case prior to completing the Workbook.
STEP 5: COMPLETE WORKBOOK
- Open the previously downloaded Workbook.
- Complete all the sections.
- Save the Workbook.
STEP 6: ONLINE SUBMISSION
- Complete submission form HERE.
- Upload the saved Business Case and Workbook at the end of the submission form.
Please note: You must complete the online submission in one sitting. You cannot save your submission and come back to it at another time.
