Coaches must attend the full duration of the training to receive credit for their participation.

NCCP MAKE ETHICAL DECISIONS 

NCCP Make Ethical Decision (MED) training has transitioned from an in person/online delivery to a single eLearning module found in the Locker.  Coaches must have completed the previous MED Training and Online Evaluation, or complete the new eLearning which consists of both training and evaluation to complete their sport certification

Important Information for Midstream Coaches – coaches who previously completed the NCCP Make Ethical Decisions training or paid for the MED Online Evaluation but did not complete the evaluation before March 31, 2026, may be eligible for free access to the new MED eLearning module until September 30, 2026.    If you have questions about the NCCP Make Ethical Decisions (MED) eLearning module, visit the MED eLearning page on the Coaching Association of Canada website to view frequently asked questions and learn more.

Planning a Practice module consists of two components:

Coaches must complete both components to receive full credit for having taken the Planning a Practice Module.

Planning a Practice learning activities will prepare coaches to:

  • explain the importance of logistics in the development of a practice plan;
  • establish an appropriate structure for a practice; and
  • identify appropriate activities for each part of the practice.

After completing the NCCP Emergency Action Plan eLearning activity, coaches will be able to:

  • describe the importance of having an Emergency Action Plan (EAP);
  • identify when to activate the EAP;
  • explain the responsibilities of the charge person and call person when the EAP is activated; and
  • create a detailed EAP that includes all required information for responding to an emergency.

A Home Study format is available for those coaches requiring an alternative learning option.

NCCP BASIC MENTAL SKILLS – 4 hours

After completing Basic Mental Skills module, you will be able to:

  • recognize signs that an athlete may need to improve his or her goal setting, focus, and anxiety control skills; and develop tools to help the athlete to make improvements in these areas; and
  • run simple guided activities that help athletes improve basic mental skills.

A Home Study format is available for those coaches requiring an alternative learning option.

After completing the NCCP Teaching and Learning module, you will be able to:

  • assess your own beliefs regarding effective teaching.
  • analyze certain coaching situations to see if they promote learning.
  • create conditions that promote learning and self-esteem through:
    • appropriate consideration of the affective, cognitive, and motor dimensions of learning the use of words and methods that relate to an athlete’s preferred learning style.
    • a sound organization.
    • active supervision; and
    • the use of well-formulated feedback offered at the right time and with the right frequency
  • use teaching assessment grids to gather objective information on teaching effectiveness and use this data to develop an action plan to enhance your own effectiveness as a teacher and coach.
