The downtown arena was sold out for the presentation of the gold medal game in women’s hockey, featuring the host province of Alberta against Quebec.

In an electrifying atmosphere in front of a boisterous crowd, Team Alberta was the first to open up the score halfway through the period with a powerplay goal courtesy of Kassy Betinol.

In the second period, Quebec tied the game. But Alberta answered with minutes to regain the 1-goal lead, with a nice tap in from Jaden Bogden.

Despite mounting pressure from Quebec in the third period, goalkeeper Bella McKee stood her ground making exceptional saves to keep her team ahead and earn a gold medal for Alberta.

This is the first gold medal for Alberta in women’s hockey since 2011 and the third gold medal at Canada Winter Games.
