March 01, 2019March 2, 2019News, Team Alberta A few days after suffering a disappointing loss against British Columbia in preliminary action, Team Alberta bounced back today and scored a huge 2-1 overtime victory in the semi-finals, advancing to the gold medal game. The first two periods of fast and intense hockey remained scoreless. Team Alberta scored the opening goal of the game in the second minute of play in the third period, a goal courtesy of Kassy Betinol. But British Columbia answered within minutes to equalize the game. The Alberta netminder faced a barrage of offensive pressure from British Columbia and remained strong stopping a clear breakaway and a penalty shot in the dying minutes of the game to keep Alberta’s hope of a gold medal alive. With no clear winner in regulation time, the match featured a 3-on-3 overtime period. Midway through the 10 minutes, Team Alberta’s Danielle Serdachny served a beautiful pass cross-ice, with Sarah Wozniewicz tapping the puck behind the British Columbia goalie for the Alberta victory. Team Alberta will face the winner of the Quebec-Ontario semifinals match. The game is slated Saturday at 12:30 pm at the Downtown Arena in Red Deer.
