At the halfpipe at WinSport in Calgary, Team Alberta fielded four freestyle skiers in the main finals, earning a total of three medals including both gold medals.

In the women’s contest, Alberta placed 1-2 in the qualifiers with Dillan Glennie posting the top score of 89.8 points and Emma Morozumi taking the second spot scoring 83.20 points.

The men’s qualifiers saw two Alberta skiers move on to the finals. Jake Sandstrom, a two-time silver medallist at these Games entering the contest, and Xander Cayer both moved on to the medal runs.

Under the bright lights of the Winsport Halfpipe, the Alberta skiers scored a total of three medals: two gold medals and a silver medal.

In the women’s finals, Morozumi posted the best first run with a score of 68.60 points, immediately followed by Glennie at 64.40 points. The second run fared even better for Morozumi, upping her score to 72.40 points for the gold medal. Glennie similarly performed best in the second run, increasing her score to 68.60 points for the silver medal.

Morozumi, 14 of Calgary, AB is the 2018 Canadian Junior Champion in the discipline as well as the 2018 Provincial Champion in the discipline.

The Alberta men struggled in the first of two runs of the men’s finals, but Xander Cayer bounced back with an incredible second run that landed him a score of 78.00 points for the gold medal.

Cayer, 16, of Calgary, AB is the reigning Canadian Junior Champion in the event.

Freestyle skiing contributed to eight medals for Team Alberta.
