Alberta Winter Games Announces Alexandre Bilodeau as Opening Ceremonies Emcee
Host Society Welcomes Two-Time Olympic Gold Medalist

(Fort McMurray, AB – February 14, 2018) – The 2018 Wood Buffalo Alberta Winter Games Society is excited to announce that two-time Olympic gold medalist Alexandre Bilodeau will kick-off the 2018 Alberta Winter Games as emcee for the Opening Ceremonies.

“I’m so excited to come in for the 2018 Wood Buffalo Alberta Winter Games and share this moment with all of Alberta’s next generation of elite athletes,” says Bilodeau. “I could not think of a better moment than during Olympic games to reflect to these young athletes that the experience that they are about to live is unique. For some of them it will be the highlight of their sport career and others it will be a stepping stone to the Olympics, but for all of them it will be long life memories.”

Alexandre Bilodeau wrote a page in Canadian history becoming the first Olympian to win a gold medal on Canadian soil at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. At the 2014 Winter Olympics, he became the first Olympian in history to defend his gold medal in a freestyle skiing event. A model of perseverance and a source of inspiration to many, he has proven himself to be one of Canada’s most talented young athletes.

“We are thrilled to welcome Alexandre Bilodeau to not only our Opening Ceremonies, but our amazing community,” says Michelle Toner, 2018 Alberta Winter Games General Manager. “There is no better person to inspire our next generation of athletes than someone who has been where they are and accomplished greatness through hard work and dedication.”

The sold-out 2018 Alberta Winter Games Opening Ceremonies takes place February 16th, 7pm, at the Shell Place Baseball Diamond. Over 2,000 participants will take the field in this pep-rally, designed to celebrate and inspire the athletes of the Alberta Winter Games. The event is “lights” themed and will host surprises for participants and spectators. The Opening Ceremonies will be live streamed online. Visit AlbertaWinterGames.ca for more information.
